UiTM started offering degree programme in 1996 and it was upgraded to a university status in 1999 after which postgraduate degree were first offered. UiTM is a comprehensive university offering a wide range of programmes from a wide variety of fields; from Music, Performing Arts, Arts & Design, Architecture and Built Environment, Law, Computer Science & Mathematics, Engineering, Business and Accounting and up to Dentistry and Medicine. Meanwhile there are also Centre of Excellence catering for research in areas of like Accounting, Pharmacogenomics, Bigdata and Transport. About half of the 500 over programmes are degree and post graduate programme and almost all of that are offered in the main campus in Shah Alam and the UiTM Selangor Campus. About 40,000 full time students enrolled there and slightly about 5 percent are enrolled in the part time mode of study. Only starting 2017 UiTM were given the permission to enroll International students in to its post graduate programme.
